Team “Franklinstein”: Scott Davis, Chris Meyle, Tristen T., Eric Shuler, Isabella B., Margaret Bauman, Alex and Kristen joined together to participate in the Baltimore Grotto Pumpkin Hunt.
Bottom Line Up Front: Pumpkin Hunt is fun—more folks should try it next year. It’s an Amazing Race style challenge with clues hidden at multiple sites (caves and non-caves) in the area of Franklin, WV. Puzzles must be solved in order to move from clue to clue. This year’s theme was Cryptid Clue, with a murder mystery to solve. Six of us planned to run as a team. Only Scott had done the Hunt before. We found out that it would be tougher to race without an experienced pumpkin hunter on the team. Luckily, not only did Scott help us out, but Kristen and Alex from Baltimore Grotto hopped on our team last minute and gave us a major boost. We completed the challenge in 7.5 hours and finishing a respectable 5th out of 10 teams. Our clues led to five caves: Blood, Kee, Hamilton, New Trout, and McCoy’s Mill.
